“Our Power, Our Planet”. Let’s Celebrate Earth Day!

Take a step towards a greener tomorrow.

Every small effort makes a big difference!

Happy Earth Day!

The theme “Our Power, Our Planet” for Earth Day 2026 emphasizes the importance of community participation in sustaining environmental protections that affect the cost of living, public health, infrastructure reliability, and long-term stability. This theme is particularly impactful for women as it highlights the role of women and communities in driving action that supports clean air, clean water, clean energy, and climate stability.

Women are at the forefront of climate solutions and are often the most affected by the impacts of climate change. The theme encourages women to take action during Earth Week to support these efforts, which can lead to increased community engagement and collective action that benefits women and their communities. By participating in activities and advocating for environmental protections, women can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

Earth Day was a suggestion in 1969 from the US Senator, Gaylord Nelson.

There was a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara and he suggested that we start looking at our earth in a different way. In 1970, the first ever Earth Day was celebrated, but it really didn’t become popular until 1990.

Now we have over 200 million people organizing and fighting for climate protection over 141 countries.

Every year on April 22nd we celebrate Earth Day as a reminder that mother earth needs to be protected because we only have one.

What do you do to protect Mother Earth? In 2020 Zonta Says NOW started from District 23 which are Zonta clubs in Australia. They gathered momentum and the following year created with Zonta International a statement on climate change in 2021.

Zontians in Australia have experienced climate change events foe a long time. they created a “Think Tank” with Zontians around the world and they are learning what and how they can help women and girls around the world for the future.

The world is in all of our hands.
