16 Days of Activism 2026

From 25 November to 10 December 2026, communities worldwide will join the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that calls for urgent action to end violence against women and children. This year’s theme, “Letsema: Men, Women, Boys and Girls Working Together to End Gender-Based Violence and Femicide”, emphasizes collective responsibility. “Letsema,” a Southern African term for communal work, reflects the belief that lasting change requires everyone’s participation.

The campaign begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and concludes on Human Rights Day, symbolically linking the fight against abuse to the broader struggle for human dignity. Across countries, events will include marches, art installations, workshops, and policy dialogues. Activists will highlight the urgent need for stronger legal protections, survivor support services, and education that challenges harmful gender norms.

In 2026, the movement also aligns with environmental justice efforts, echoing the One Billion Rising call to “Rise for Our Bodies, Our Earth, Our Future.” This intersectional approach recognizes that violence, inequality, and environmental harm are interconnected.

The 16 Days remind us that ending gender-based violence is not a seasonal cause—it is a year-round commitment to justice, safety, and equality.
